I have been working to create images with atmospheric lighting to create dramatic compositions. I am seeking to use contrasts in tone and the juxtaposition of natural to artificial light to heighten the symbolic content of my images.
I use the figure to create work about time and human experience of its passing. I am seeking to explore the event; I am trying to capture the unseen element of time passing. I am interested in symbolic significance of gesture, which is body language, as it is an unconscious act, so communicates the Id’s truth.
I’m looking closely at the relationship between the feelings of regret; sense of an uncertain world and the continual movement of time with unpredictable open ended narratives.
I use light as a metaphor, in particular low light conditions because they have particular significances in a world were people have so much control over nature, we can easily turn on a light to see. Only in our imaginations, behind our own eyes are we confounded in the dark. 2011
